If changing the lives of hundreds of students does not sound like incentive enough, there is a variety of benefits to a teaching position through LHCEC. Teachers come from all over the world to teach our students, so we want to make it a worth while experience for everyone. Below are a list of some benefits that will make your time and effort unforgettable as you immerse yourself in the life, culture and language of this fascinating country!
GENEROUS STIPEND or SALARY
We know that you are here out of the goodness of your heart. Even so, we want you to have the best experience possible, and you will need capital to do so. Stipend is 8,000 RMB/month, and salaries range from 9,000-15,000 RMB/month. Let’s just say you won’t be on a budget! In addition, you will receive full reimbursement on your airfare. The exact amount will vary depending on the specific host school.
FREE ACCOMMODATIONS
Every teacher will be provided with an on-campus apartment that is fully furnished (i.e. bed, desk, chairs, couch, table, kitchenware, etc), not to mention AC/Heat, hot water, TV, and Internet access.
VOLUNTEER / TEACHER ORIENTATION
Before you start your adventure in your official host school, a welcome/new-teacher orientation will be held on matters such as campus and facilities, banking, health, transportation, mail service, and food after you arrive. Also, please remember that the host school/college Foreign Affairs staff and LHCEC staff are more than happy to assist you at any point during your stay.
FREE TEFL CERTIFICATION
You have never taught English before? No problem!
We know you are here for the experience and what the give the best of yourself to the cause, so we do what we can to help. All teachers will go through a TEFL certification program that will allow them to be ready for the upcoming teaching experience. You will be armed with the tools to succeed in your role!
EXCURSIONS & SOCIAL EVENTS
Free guided tours are held on weekends and holidays for you by most institutions to discover local major historical and cultural attractions. You will have the chance to participate in many events. These tours and events provide opportunities for you to deepen your knowledge of China’s rich historical and cultural heritage and make new friends to local people. On top of whatever your host school may provide, the LHCEC puts together social events for you to meet with all the other volunteers around the region. Here, you will join a community of like-minded peers of your age.
CULTURAL SEMINARS
Many schools offer teachers opportunity to learn about Chinese art and culture through a series of introductory workshops on Chinese Calligraphy, Traditional Chinese Massage and Medicine, Chinese Painting, Chinese Songs or Kongfu. Our knowledgeable cultural ambassadors and professors will guide you on an immersive journey into Chinese culture.
FREE MEDICAL COVERAGE
For your safety and health, all schools provide you with free medical coverage. You should never worry that you are not covered!
SUPPORT
Each school or college has a Foreign Affairs Department with years of experience working with foreigners. When necessary, they can provide support with residence information, teaching arrangements, safety advice and other logistics. Also, the LHCEC is always ready to assist you if requested.
FREE LANGUAGE CLASSES
Participants are not required to have any knowledge of the Chinese language. However, free classes in ‘Survival Mandarin’ and above levels are held regularly and are taught by qualified and experienced teachers. You will be taught practical Chinese including phrases and words commonly used in daily life.
